Spanish newspaper AS has reported that the future of Manchester City midfielder Rodri is still in limbo, even though his club have presented him with an attractive offer to renew his contract until 2029 for a salary that would place him among the most highest paid players on the continent; 29-year-old Rodri had not yet made up his mind.
The deal is made more difficult by Real Madrid's wish to sign the Spanish national team captain and Madrid-born midfielder: a profile that matches what club coach Xabi Alonso wants, but one in short supply on the market.
Although the 25-year-old is six years away from his contract expiring, City regard Rodri as one of the key foundations to their recent success and are making every effort possible to retain him and avoid losing him for nothing in 2027.
If he can help Spain to glory at the World Cup, that will be as good a calling card as any for Rodri about what he wants to do next: stay but signed or leave on top of the world.
