A report from Spanish newspaper 'AS' on Friday stated that Robert Lewandowski will not begin his adventure with Barcelona this season due to an injury in his left hamstring, which could see him sidelined for up to three weeks.

The newspaper reported that the player will be absent from the match in which Mallorca opens its season on August 16, and his participation in the second match against Levante a week later and Rayo Vallecano on September 2 is conditional on his recovery, where whether or not he returns after stopping for international duty.

In an official statement, the club confirmed that Lewandowski would play no part in the Gamper Cup match and added: "The progress of the 30-year-old's injury is scheduled to be evaluated this week with regard to his involvement in team training.

After the absence of the Polish striker, coach Hans Flick revealed that he was considering his options to fill this gap — Ferran Torres is emerging as the primary candidate, along with a likely reliance on Marcus Rashford if registered to participate in the early rounds.
